Talent Latent is a Kinshasa rumba band, that achieved some level of success in the 1990s. The band’s name stands for latent talent, forcibly referring to the band members. Mosain Malanda et Faustin Djata , presumed co-founders of the band are not musician though. Among other members were the famous Fally Ipupa and his old friend Atele Kunianga, and soloist (guitarist) Papillion.

Release and Disbanding

Talent Latent released its sole album titled La Nouvelle Vague, meaning the new wave in 1999. The album is sub-titled A l’œuvre on connait l’artiste, translating into One recognizes the craftsman by his work. Still in 1999 while working on their second album, the team disbanded after most of its members left to create Quartier Latin Académia. Fally would also leave to join Koffi Olomide’s Quartier Latin Band in the same year.
