Code d’Amour

On Fally’s level, I honestly believe Code d’Amour is an average song, to say the best. It is a love song to somebody called Eliane. It’s another Libana Song as you probably guessed. “I will forever love you; we’ll age together”. That’s another galaxy of Congolese love songs.

Then comes another teaching on Congolese music: the “Vocals”. A vocal is a portion of the song sung by another artist when singing in a group. Usually, the “other” singers will listen to the song and sing their “original” portions that match it. Vocals are a way for artists to promote their backing musicians. Songs with a lot of vocals become melting-pots that some fans seem to appreciate.

I like it when vocals are well-coordinated and build into the song’s spirit. A lot of times, however, they go wrong to my point of view. They sometimes bring discordance in the song meaning, and end-up being a place for contributors to inelegantly throw their mabangas.
